Single Speed Mountain Bike
After trail riding on my 830al for quite some time I was looking for something new. I decided to try to build a Single Speed on cheap. I was able to get a used/broken trek 3900 and build something out of it. Since all I really wanted was the frame, and wheels the cheapness of the components did not really bother me. The bike was neglected by a student and was in quite poor shape, due to not being "functional" I got a good deal. I picked up a RockWare SS conversion kit that converted a standard Shimano hub to singlespeed, and a tensioner. Purchased a new set of of front and back brake arms, a rear WTB Velociraptor tire, new cables, and some tubes. After riding it for a while I ended up getting a new bottom bracket(2/7/09). I also narrowed the handle bars by an inch on either side. I would like to put some better pedals on the bike at some point.
